John Dean Receives Distinguished Public Service Award

John DeanJohn W. Dean, CPA, CVA, ABV, was selected to receive the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants' (LCPA) 2010 Distinguished Public Service Award. Presented jointly by the LCPA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the award is the highest honor for public service leadership, impact, involvement and innovation by a Louisiana CPA.

John was honored for his notable contributions to economic development in the Shreveport area. He is active in the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, Greater Shreveport Economic Development Foundation, and the Committee of One Hundred. He was a vital part of Shreveport's efforts to locate a large Libbey Glass distribution center, and assisted in the formation of the area's Young Professionals Initiative.

In addition, John has generously given of his time and talent to Volunteers of America North Louisiana for the past 21 years, having served as a past chairman and currently as a member of the organization's board of directors. As a result of his vision and ability, VOA was able to increase the number of people served from 1,500 to over 10,000 people; and the organization's budget increased from $1,000,000 to over $15,000,000, thus enabling VOA to better meet the social, emotional and spiritual needs of individuals in the local community.

John also serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee and Board member of Christus Schumpert Health System. He is the President of the Grayson Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of Holy Angels Residential Facility.

As the recipient of the LCPA's award, he will now be nominated for the AICPA's 2010 National Public Service Award.

John, who served as managing partner at HMV for 11 years, is the third partner at HMV to receive this honor in the award's 29 year history. C. Cody White received the award in 1984; and J. Peter Gaffney in 1994.
